The El Paso Apartment Association’s affiliated 501(c)3 foundation, Under One Roof, received a $10 million grant from the City of El Paso for rental assistance.

Under One Roof partnered with another local non-profit organization, the Paso Del Norte Community Foundation, to apply for the grant. The El Paso City Council authorized the grant utilizing community recovery CARES Act funding it received from the federal government.

The rental assistance fund will prioritize those most in need, particularly renters earning 30 percent of area median family income (AMFI) who are at risk of eviction. Like all the assistance programs financed by CARES dollars, applicants will need to demonstrate loss of income because of the pandemic.

Ruby Imai, the President of the El Paso Apartment Association and board member of Under One Roof, said she expects the funds will be able to help thousands of El Pasoans.

“We are grateful to Mayor Margo and the City Council for their decision to fund the rental assistance program. There is a real need for assistance in the community and we are thrilled to be able help administer this program,” Imai said.

Rental property owners will be responsible for applying on behalf of their residents. Residents will have to
verify their information entered by the property owner. Property owners will be able to register on the
website eprenthelp.org beginning the week of July 13. All payments will be made directly to the rental property owner.
