In many ways, the 2021 Texas Apartment Association ONE Conference & Expo was a typical TAA conference in a very untypical year.

While attendance was lighter than at recent conferences, the almost 1,500 registrants and 1,300 exhibitor personnel gathering in San Antonio marked the first major TAA event since 2019—and the first major convention with an expo held in the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in a similar timeframe.

Temperature checks, masks and rooms set for physical distancing were a decided break from the normal TAA conference, but the fellowship, fun and good spirits were in sync with more typical TAA events.

Here’s a look at some of the Conference highlights:

  • NFL Hall-of-Famer and Emmy-winning broadcaster Terry Bradshaw talked about his experiences in sports, movies and television, sharing anecdotes and life lessions with Conference Emcee Chet Garner, “The Daytripper,” during the General Opening Session April 15.
  • Conference-goers had almost 60 concurrent educational seminars to choose from, including seven Learning Lounge sessions inside the ONE Expo on Thursday and Friday.
  • In addition to the 360+ booths in the ONE Expo, visitors had the opportunity to shop at a Kendra Scott pop-up boutique to benefit the TAA Education Foundation.
  • TAAEF introduced Robert Hills as the winner of its “Be the Next Room To Grow Ambassador: Maintenance Edition” campaign. See Robert’s story.
  • TAAEF also sponsored a lunch for Foundation donors and raffled a 2021 Cadillac XT4. Kathy Bledsoe Charlton with LDG Development was the winner of the vehicle raffle.
  • Networking events included the kickoff Riverwalk Reunion party April 15 on the San Antonio Riverwalk, and the Stars of Texas Leadership Celebration & Awards Gala on April 16.
  • TAA’s officers and Executive Committee members were recognized during the April 16 Gala. The officers of the Product/Service Council were also introduced during the Gala.
  • Sixteen professional award winners from both 2020 and 2021 were recognized April 16.
  • Clay Hicks, CPM received the Frank P. Finch Presidential Award in a surprise announcement during the General Opening Session April 15.
