The Texas Apartment Association’s prestigious Frank P. Finch Presidential Award was presented to Perry Hunnicutt of Houston during the TAA Board of Directors meeting April 25 in Houston for his outstanding contributions to the association.

While this award is typically given annually to a volunteer whose work has had the most impact on TAA during the previous year, TAA President Scott Wilder, CPM, chose to honor Hunnicutt’s efforts as a founding member of TAA and as a long-time advocate and supporter of the association.

03ThAM_Board075Hunnicutt served as TAA’s second President in 1964-65. He and his wife, Jennette, were founding members and instrumental in both organizing TAA and helping it to grow and develop. During his term, the first TAA newsletter was launched, and TAA hired its first lobbyist to assist the association during the 1965 legislative session.

With typical modesty, Hunnicutt noted in an interview taped for the association’s anniversary that he, Jennette and other founding members “just recognized that there was a need” for a statewide association for the rental housing industry and that the association’s early leaders were “feeling our way from the beginning.” Hunnicutt also acknowledged in that interview that he is proud of TAA’s accomplishments, which “certainly exceeded my expectations.”

Hunnicutt and his wife are the parents of TAA’s 28th President, Hap Hunnicutt. The entire Hunnicutt family has set a high bar of service to the industry and the association, and we greatly appreciate the time, effort and commitment Perry, Jennette and Hap have made on behalf of our industry and the members of this association. It’s particularly appropriate that we acknowledge Perry’s untiring efforts as one of TAA’s founding “fathers” and as the father of this amazing family of industry leaders during our 50th anniversary celebration.

Congratulations, Perry!
